What Is a Certified Translation?

A certified translation is a complete, accurate translation of your document accompanied by a signed Certification of Accuracy — a statement from the translator or agency attesting that the translation is a true and accurate representation of the original.

USCIS, courts, universities, credential evaluators, and government agencies require certified translations for foreign-language documents. Every certified translation from Auerbach International includes:

  • A complete translation of all content on the original document
  • A signed Certification of Accuracy — included free of charge, as requested
  • Official-document layout recreated to preserve the original appearance
  • Notarization available for a nominal additional fee when required

Who Requires Certified Translations?

Certified translations are the standard for official use — here is where ours are accepted and what each requester expects

USCIS & Immigration

Green card, visa, and citizenship applications. USCIS requires certified translations with the translator's certification statement — notarization is not required.

Courts & Legal Proceedings

Certified translations with Certificate of Accuracy for court submissions. Some courts require notarization — check with your attorney for specific court requirements.

Universities & Credential Evaluators

Admissions offices and NACES-member evaluation agencies (WES, ECE, and others). Translations are prepared to credential-evaluation standards.

Government Agencies

Federal, state, and local agencies that require certified translations of foreign-language records for official filings and applications.

Employers & Licensing Boards

Professional licensure and employment verification that depends on accurately translated foreign credentials and records.

Foreign & International Use

Documents headed abroad may need an apostille. We coordinate with apostille service providers on your behalf for Hague Convention countries.

Certification, Notarization & Apostille — What You Actually Need

Most requesters only need certification. Here is how the three levels differ, so you don’t pay for more than your agency requires.

Certification

A signed Certification of Accuracy attesting the translation is complete and accurate. Included free of charge, as requested. Sufficient for USCIS and most agencies.

Notarization

A notary public verifies the identity of the person signing the certification. Available for a nominal additional fee — required by some courts, states, and foreign governments.

Apostille

Authenticates a public document for use in Hague Convention countries, issued by the Secretary of State. We coordinate with trusted apostille providers on your behalf.

Not sure which level your agency requires? Check with the requesting agency or your attorney — or contact us and we’ll help you confirm before you order.
